Text: "Apokalypsis" (The Book of Revelation)

            Many say that the Book of Revelation is “dangerous,” “mean,” and “difficult.”  All of them may be correct.  Even early Church Fathers did not know what to do with the Book of Revelation.  Some thought that it needed to be omitted from the Bible.

           There is no Book of “Revelations” in the New Testament.  The “Revelation” is singular, one document designed to be read aloud and heard all at once.  The writing cannot be understood by extracting a sentence or paragraph from its context, but must be experienced as a whole.  John’s narrative is about the single revelation that comes through the many visions that populate his book. 

The overarching message of the “Apokalypsis” for the Johannine community and contemporary audience of the Book of Revelation is clear and simple: Jesus Christ is the Lord (not Caesar).
